Who ARE sup up north?

I’m Amy – SUP up North founder based in North Shields.

I provide stand up paddle boarding (SUP) lessons for canny adventurers near Newcastle, wanting to try something new, or improve their paddle boarding skills.

As my main profession and passion is Ecology, I aim to offer nature-focused paddles to show you the amazing wildlife we have here, up North.

I hope to inspire you to get outside, learn to paddle safely and appreciate nature from a paddle board.

Stand up paddle boarding lessons are suitable for everyone. Leave your worries on the shore, connect to your body and immerse yourself in nature.

I have local knowledge and experience paddling amazing SUP Spots with a wealth of wildlife – coast, river or lake.

I invite you to join me. No experience necessary.

Paddle boarders with some experience but want to gain confidence exploring new places are also welcome!

Currently paddle board lessons are only available to adults or children over 14 years of age with a participating adult.

SUP Spots will be selected within 48 hours of the SUP Lesson date – based on weather conditions, group size and participant ability.

Paddle boarding lessons will be on calm, slow or still waters – coast or river and within 30-45 minutes of Newcastle.

Please see the SUP Spot Gallery for some inspiration!

Further information is provided in the Booking & Cancellation Policy.

What to expect

On the day, I will meet you at the SUP Spot and welcome you.

All participants will be provided with a Red Paddle Co iSUP, waist leash, buoyancy aid and winter wetsuit. All SUP equipment is safe, comfortable and available in a range of sizes.

Participants are welcome to get changed in the privacy of our SUP up North van.

All you need to bring is a towel, a swimsuit/bikini, an old pair of trainers that you don’t mind getting wet and a change of clothes. Plus extras to keep you protected in warm weather i.e. sun cream/hat.

I recommend that you bring some water, a hot drink and snacks for afters.

Both Group and Private paddle boarding lessons include a land-based session and a health and safety briefing before we move onto the water.

SUP Lessons will last between 1.5 to 2 hours (depending on the type of booking made). Bespoke lessons or longer SUP Lessons can be discussed where appropriate.
